TRU LEAP Experience x Brownstone Restaurant = My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Would you like the opportunity to meet different people while bonding over new experiences?  Did you know that the former International Student Activity Program (ISAP), is now called the ‘TRU Leisure Explore Activity Program’ (LEAP) and can provide you with opportunities to experience ten to twelve different activities each semester?  LEAP can help you to explore the Kamloops area and other nearby cities – while immersing yourself in Canadian culture!

To exemplify the TRU LEAP experience, take a look at the dinner theatre event that was thoroughly enjoyed by our students at the Brownstone Restaurant!  The theme was, ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’.  Tickets for the general public were $80, but for our students they were made available at $20/ticket.  A much more affordable price for the student’s budget, and many expressed their gratitude!

What was on the night’s menu?  Specifically selected champagne and wines paired with succulent offerings that were artfully displayed over the five course experience.  For those unfamiliar with the prestige of the Brownstone Restaurant, at first bite – their palate would certainly know that a very fine culinary experience was unfolding!  Yes, a mouthwatering array of: Tzatziki, Taramasalata, Skordalia, Dolmathes, Spanakopita, Moussaka, Roast Monte Lake Lamb, and Hazelnut & Honey Baklava.

Brownstone Restaurant is a very special place to dine.  It not only provides a delightfully elegant and warm ambiance, but it also believes in supporting the farm to table process.  Their efforts in the garden and their support to local farmers ensures that you enjoy fresh food and an abundance of optimal nutrients.  If you check out their Instagram account @brownstonekamloops, you will be able to see that they even support ‘backyard Brownstone bees!’  These bees, made the delicious honey that Brownstone Restaurant used to serve our dessert!

In addition to the amazing culinary experience, our students enjoyed watching a live theatre where the actors and actresses performed out their very own version of a 2016 Big Fat Greek Wedding!  Plates were smashed, OPA! was yelled, and ‘Zorba’s Dance,’ was enjoyed by everyone.
